Books
Summer Reading- This is the only time of year as a teacher that I get to read. My mind can’t concentrate on reading during the year. This summer I read more than I ever have before and loved every minute of it. I started with reading

I had began reading it a few years ago and didn’t finish it. I love it. The funny thing is I loved Bali better than Italy or Indonesia. I wasn’t expecting that and not many others share my feelings. I am ready for the movie. Date night with Coco!
Next, I read

I loved this book. I couldn’t put it down. It enraged me, it made me laugh, it made me cry. I really love historical fiction anyway.
Then, I was on a wait list at the library for my next book of choice so while I waited, I read this

Very interesting. I enjoy this one as well and didn’t expect to like it. A friend recommended it and I am glad I took the time to read it.
Next, come my obsession of the summer. I began to abandon my family much like I did when I read the Twilight series. I really loved these books.

These are unlike books I usually read. The librarian told me I might get bogged down in all the Swedish names and places but they didn’t bother me at all. These are gripping novels. The second one is my favorite. I highly recommend getting into this series. Fabulous reads!
I am ending the summer with a required summer read from school. I nice uplifting message:

There is also a kid book about the same concept. A good one to read over and over. Be kind people.

Missy Mack also had a summer full of reading. It started with her wanting an Alice and Wonderland chapter book from the book fair. I wasn’t sure if she was up for listening to a chapter book so we tried it. Luckily, this was a condensed version of Alice. Still 10 chapters and over a 100 pages. She listened, she recapped , she was truly motivated!

I brought home a few of my favorites from my classroom and let her pick. Next she wanted to read this

I wasn’t sure about this one. I had read it aloud to my third graders and it was hard for them to sit and listen. Missy Mack had seen the movie and was also very motivated, so we read it and she loved it!
Once that was finished, we moved on to one of my all time favorites

She also loved this one and we watched the movie after we finished.
Then, she wanted to learn more about the fairies of Pixie Hollow so we picked up this book:

She liked this one because Tink meets up with Peter Pan in the story and she thought that was great. I am looking forward to getting others in this series.
Missy Mack has also gotten turned on to The American Girls and Molly is her favorite so we have read these books:

I am looking forward to working through these books. It has her thinking and asking good history questions.
All in all, I read to Missy Mack over 1000 minutes this summer. I think her own reading is on the horizon. She can read this book, but mostly because she has memorized it, but also because she actually knows some of these words. This is just thrilling to me. Here is her solo book and I highly recommend any of Mo Wiiliem’s books:

I thought I would add some Valentine’s Day favorites for kids just for fun.
Here is what Missy Mack will receive for Valentine’s Day this year:

This is one of my favorites because it is just such a sweet little story.

I also love this one because of the clever writing, cute story and lesson learned.

I love to read. I rarely find the time to do it and for some reason when I do read, I get so absorbed in the book I end up finishing it in a few days or totally ignoring my family( er..Twilight series). Mr. Mack is also a big time reader. He, like his father, will not believe that anything is the truth or can be done unless they read about it. Seriously, last week, I told Mr. Mack something and he blew me off. Two days later, he read the same thing where I had learned my information and then comes to me to tell me about his new found knowledge. Really? I have learned to just accept it and move it instead of being offended.
I just finished

It was wonderful. I read it in a few days and went out to the store to buy:

This one is 3x as long and school starts tomorrow so I am not sure if it will ever get read. I have read the first chapter and I am intrigued so we will see.
I have also found that working out and reading at the same time makes the working out go much faster so I might actually get this read.
It is the sequel to Chocolat, which I loved.
Also, if you are a teacher or a mother who cares at all about their children having a love for reading, you must read my friend’s book The Book Whisperer. I taught with this phenomenal teacher a few years ago. She was asked to start a blog by an education magazine and her blog turned into this book.

It will change the way you think about reading and it’s instruction.
