Kickin’ it Old School
Posted by admin on March 3rd, 2010 . Filed under: Uncategorized .Do any of you remember these dolls?

These are the “My Friend Dolls” from Fisher Price: Mandy, Becky, Mikey and Jenny. I had Mandy and Becky growing up and they were by far my favorite dolls even when and after the Cabbage Patch Kids. For some reason Mandy has survived all these years with me. Granted she sports some nappy hair and her cloth white 1920s style bathing suits with little yellow rosettes. When we moved, Missy Mack discovered Mandy and has fallen in love.
Today a package arrived from my mom for Mr. Mack for his B-Day and Missy Mack because she is the best granddaughter ever. In the package was a card and gift for Mr. Mack, a card for Missy Mack with 2 dollar bills in it (because she likes to get money so my mom thinks it is cute to send her a few bills) and some stinkin’ cute clothes for Missy Mack. When we asked Missy Mack what she wanted to spend her money on, she responded by saying, ‘Hm… a dishwasher.’ We broke out into silent laughter and then she said, ‘A Becky doll to be friends with Mommy’s Mandy doll.’ I have now bid on a few Becky dolls on ebay. I am such a sucka!
This also made me remember that this weekend when I was cruising the Target aisles, I saw this:

Rainbow Bright! She was a little bit after my time, but she is back. Here is what she looked like back in the day:

She is cute I guess. I just fear for myself because I have a daughter who is super girly and gravitates toward all these types of things. My mom got Missy Mack obsessively into My Little Pony, which we also had back in the day. Again, I think it was a little after my time, but I remember them. If there is a My Little Pony anything, we have it. She is loves the princesses and we own every princess Barbie. In fact, she thinks that Barbie means a Disney Barbie and I am o.k. with that. She loves Dora, but we don’t have any Dora toys. My point is, if Rainbow Bright is on the scene, it will not take her long to live in our home.
I can remember being way into Barbies and Strawberry Shortcake Dolls. I had them all and my BFF and I would lay all them out and take turn picking which ones we would play with. By the time we got it all evenly sorted out, it would be time to go home. These were the Strawberry Shortcake dolls I played with (and they are making a come back too)

So, do you have any great memories of a childhood toy?
Cross your fingers for me to win my bid on the Becky doll!

I didn’t have many dolls other than Cabbage Patch. I’m one of 6 kids. We were thrilled to have more than a bag of rocks to play with.

I almost couldn’t read this post b/c I’m terrified of dolls. Seriously. I scrolled down as fast as I could past that first set of pictures. Cabbage Patch, Rainbow Bright….those don’t bother me. The ones that really try to look like babies freak me the HELL out. Especially those Madam Alexander dolls. No way jose!
Anyway- I loved Strawberry Shortcake. I remember that Blueberry Muffin got stuck behind my dresser and we kept smelling this awful smell for months and months. I don’t know why it was awful, but my mom finally realized it was Blueberry Muffin back there. That was the end of my Strawberry shortcake collection.
What a sweet Mom you have to send care packages like that!

I don’t really remember loving any toys all that much. I never had a real Cabbage Patch doll (gasp). My mom swears she has been on the waiting list at Toys R Us since 1984. But I did have a very cool strawberry case that carried all of my Strawberry Shortcake dolls. I really just remember riding bikes and playing outside most of the time when I was little. We were lame!
