Dr. Seuss and Texas
Posted by admin on March 1st, 2010 . Filed under: Uncategorized .March the 2nd is one of my favorite days of the year for two reasons.
1. Today is Dr. Seuss’ Birthday. Happy Birthday Theodor Geisel!

Thus, March 2nd is Read Across America Day! Therefore, you need to read to your kids today. Schools will celebrate all across the country by spending the day reading or some super read-a-thon. They will eat green eggs and ham, they will do some sort of great Cat in the Hat crafts. I, myself, will be sporting my red and white Cat in the Hat top hat. Here are a few fun things to do with your lovelies to celebrate the wild and kooky man who wrote under a pen name, went to Oxford, was in the military, an advertiser and political cartoonist by trade and the master of strange characters and rhymes.
I am going to come back to this reading thing in just a bit, but for now, I will get to the Texas part of the post.
2. Today is also Texas Independence Day.

We will most likely drink a Lone Star and maybe eat some Texas shaped cookies. Mr. Mack and die hard about being born and raised in Texas and we also are sure to poor some out for our Texas fore-farthers on March the 2nd. Happy Texas Independence Day! Luckily for us, we will also celebrate this day by practicing our favorite right-Vote. It’s voting day people so get out there and V-O-T-E.
O.K. back to the books. Here is what I want to know (two things)
1. What is your favorite books that you read aloud to your children?
2. What is your favorite Dr. Seuss character?
I’ll answer:
1. At the moment Missy Mack loves, loves, loves these books:

and all the ones in this series!

and I adore reading these books out loud to her. This crazy little cat who thinks he is a chihuahua.

2. My favorite Dr. Seuss quotes are:
“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
If you never did, you should. These things are fun, and fun is good.
“Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!”
And just for good measure, I’ll let you know my favorite of his books:

and if you haven’t check out the book that was found in Ted’s study and published posthumously.

Have a FAB. Dr. Seuss Day & Texas Independence Day!

My favorite quote is: “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You” from Happy Birthday to You.
My favorite book is: Oh, The Places You’ll Go. Such a great book to give high school graduates! Or college for that matter.

That is a great quote, Sara! I don’t think I have read the Happy Birthday book. I will have to get that one.
